A Journey

June 1, 2001 a young 21 year old man introduced the name Advocate Industries to the world at the final year show of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Wazari Johnson did not know that when he introduced this entity to the world that it would take him on such an incredible journey. The entity he introduced to the world, Advocate Industries changed his whole life

Advocate industries, at its core, is a business that deals in the production, distribution and marketing of art, craft items, architectural accents and furniture; we cover a wide cross section of products for wholesale and retail; such as ceramic wear, ceramic sculpture, paintings, gift solutions and novelties.

Its founder Wazari Johnson, over the years has produced ceramic pieces such as platters, bowls, vases, decorative plates, table ware, and ceramic sculpture. He constantly has the desire to seize the opportunity to expand operations and also the inventory of ceramic items manufactured by his business. Advocate Industries aim to revolutionize the way ceramic art and craft is promoted, sold, and distributed in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, and to pave the way for the exposure of many other ceramic artists and artisans to the market place. At this present moment the main emphasis of the company is in the area of the production of ceramic pieces for retail purposes especially in the gift solutions and fine art arena.

Wazari Johnson and Advocate Industries have been doing a considerable amount of work over the years to bolster the creative industries in Jamaica. We have produced high quality products, staged exhibitions in different areas in the island of Jamaica, albeit with limited resources and support through drive and determination. Wazari Johnson started writing articles in the Jamaica Observer and other platforms with the purpose that Jamaican art will get the boost that it needs for this time. He has also been featured in print and other media doing his work of promoting art, our efforts to garner public interest in the arts are outlined in the articles in the links below:

Awards

  • The Grace Kennedy, second place, viewer’s choice award for the “Tea Glorious Tea” exhibition.

Wazari’s work has also been featured on the Bank of Jamaica’s calendar for the year 2005, showcased in the month of October under the caption “The Potter’s”. He was the youngest potter to be featured on the calendar only having four years’ experience as a professional potter. The calendar showcased some of Jamaica’s very best potters, with the featured Artists having over twenty years’ experience at the time.

Goods Express

Aside from being an artist and designer, Wazari Johnson is also a serial entrepreneur. Over the years he has created other entities such Goods Express, that was initially started with two other partners subsequent to which a hundred percent (100%) equity was acquired by Wazari.

Goods Express is a commercial venture in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Industry which includes food, grocery, household items and general goods within the wholesale and retail Industry. We also now have a courier service attached to the entity.

Wazari Ceramics

Wazari Ceramics will be the entity that continues the primary discipline of ceramics which began with Advocate Industries. Advice from colleagues in the business and creative industries arena is that the name Wazari serves as a strong brand and should be utilized for brand recognition. We have opted to take the advice and run with it.

The Studio

The creative industries has always been special to us and we have a great interest in the various branches of that sector such as painting, sculpture, photography, illustration, ceramics and textile arts . The Studio was created as a vehicle to sell various works of art, furniture, home accents, gifts and other creative products.

Life Hub

Life Hub is an entity involved in the area of overall health, Life Hub is the place for health education, sourcing health foods, sourcing other health products and sharing healthful tips.

We plan on serving Jamaica in a variety of ways, and we intend to improve and increase the capacity with which we serve. We have formed strategic alliances with a variety of investors and we are open to working with more people who are interested in investing in Jamaica across a variety of industries and also the wider Caribbean and then the world.

At Advocate industries we are not merely chasing dreams, we are building visions.
